A tanker with the delightfully galactic name, Nordic Cosmos, came into port last night. Nordic American Tanker Shipping Ltd. reports that the Cosmos is a Suezmax tanker at 160,000 tons deadweight. It flies under the Marshall Islands flag and was built in 2003 by Samsung Heavy Industries Co (which has an elaborate flash graphic on their site) in their Koje, South Korea shipyard. According to Wikipedia the company is one of the “Big Three” Korean shipbuilders, but it is part of the same conglomerate that makes your DVD players.

Reuters reports Nordic American Tanker Shipping Ltd., the Norse company that owns the Cosmos, that

Nordic American Tanker Shipping Limited is an international tanker company that owns 12 modern double-hull Suezmax tankers averaging approximately 155,000 deadweight tons (dwt) each.

Not much info here, and not much in general, except for some stats and reports about the company’s stock prices. They have posted a glossary of tanker terms which is helpful.
