The 40,000 dwt tanker, Bow Sirius, is in Portland Harbor today. Marinetraffic.com reports that it has just come from New York. It flies under the Norwegian flag and is owned by the Odfjell Seachem corporation (a 2000 merger between a Norwegian and Moroccan company), whose name is emblazoned on the side of the ship. This report has a lot of information about the img_1316acompany, but two things seem to stand out:

Four years later, the partnership has flourished and the name Odfjell-Seachem is emblazoned on more ships per deadweight ton than any other owning group in the market…

Odfjell entered into a voluntary plea agreement with the DoJ and agreed to plead guilty to a single count violation of the US Sherman Antitrust Act with respect to certain contracts of affreightment during 1998-2002.

The company is, obviously, huge and operates both tankers and a variety of oil terminals “in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and Houston.”
